The Bat & Ball Inn has a History dating back to the 16th Century and over the past Centuries has had many varied usages including Brewery,Bakery,Drapers,Barbers,Alehouse & Grocery Shop,to name but a few.

The central part of the building & the oldest part is of Lathe and plaster construction with Oak pegged beams & was originally thatched.

With a large inglenook fireplace, this part now incorporates the snug and onwards into the kitchen and storage areas. The floors consist of massive slabs of Horsham stone, part of this floor was moved to the front Bar when the kithen floor was installed for trade purposes

Above the storage areas which forms part of the Old Bakery is a large loft space ,again all exposed cross Oak pegged beams with the old hatch in the corner for hoisting up Flour for use in the downstairs Bakery.

The front of the building has been added onto in early Victorian and Georgian times and wether you are upstairs or downstairs you get the feeling of crossing through different time periods.Moreso with the upstairs where on first impressions it appears to be a complete enigma, moving from low ceilings, small low doors, ten inch floorboards and oak beams into 11 foot ceilings and large rooms, with two floors above that used to house the brewery,to the front is the old hatched entrance for hoisting hops and barley into the old brew room.

All this set in six acres of prime Sussex meadowland complete with Duck pond and more fish than you could count.

The outer buildings are also grade 1 listed and beneath the facade of slatted wood and corrugated iron lies the original structures of Oak pegged frame construct.

The building is purported to be haunted by a small girl and the old Landlord who was in service at the Bat & Ball for 75 years

The building is also known for its usage as the local Mortuary.
